The Ready, Set, Go! Pre-School Campus Is 95% Completed – Handover to Local Authorities
570 children are attending pre-school for the first time in their life; a national network of toy libraries is set up in 11 brand new kindergartens
Bucharest, 24 March 2017 – Roma Education Fund Romania (REF) and their partners have completed a series of meetings with local authorities. The events with the generic name Mayor’s Forum are part of the educational project Ready, Set, Go! The goal of the meetings is to ensure the handover to the local authorities of the new buildings, equipments and toys, but also the responsibility to carry on the relation set by the project with their Roma communities, so that kindergarten attendance, the parents involvement in the teaching process, and all the projects remarkable results will continue beyond the conclusion of the project.
Claudia Lixandru, National Director of REF in Romania, says: “I would like to thank all our partners, we could have not done it without them. When Ready, Set, Go! is ending in May 2017, we are leaving for generations to come a small pre-school campus. According to our own estimates, the kindergartens we have built represent approximately 10% of the new pre-school infrastructure in rural Romania. It is small compared to the needs in the country, but it is huge for our joint forces: partner NGOs, schools, county school inspectorates, mayor’s offices and local councils, local communities and parents. My congratulations to all of them.”
The project has benefited from the support of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, and at local level, of the mayors’ offices, local councils and the county school inspectorates in the counties of Bihor, Calarasi, Dambovita, Ialomita, Mures and Salaj. The mayors’ fora took place in all six counties.
